〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Tupp
CHARACTER AGE: Not stated in canon. Looks to be between 16-18 years old. For the games sake I'll just have him be 18.
SERIES: Pokemon Sun and Moon Anime
CHRONOLOGY: SM0104 (That's Some Spicy Island Research!)
CLASS: Villian
HOUSING: I'm open for him to be housed where ever and with or without roommates. Surprise me!
BACKGROUND: Wiki link here!
PERSONALITY:
Tupp is punk with an attitude problem and a deep need for attention and validation. He's not a good trainer, nor is he very smart—yet he'll play the leader of his own little gang within Team Skull. Generally Tupp is all talk. He talks big, he's big on threats, but ultimately he's a big sore loser when he fails (which is often). It's never his fault if something goes wrong. Maybe it's one of his underlings: Rapp and Zipp. Maybe it was his Pokemon, or maybe the other person he was battling was cheating. Either way it's never his fault. He'll just yell his frustration at whatever the problem was and most likely run away while crying, which is what he does with almost all of his problems.
Tupps main problem? He's not popular with the ladies—or popular at all. At least, not in a way that's meaningful to him. As a kid he wanted to be the center of attention, something he briefly got a taste of when he was the only kid his age with a Pokemon. This was short lived however, when the cuter kid in class soon got his own, which was also a much cuter Pokémon as well. An Eevee, and who can turn down an Eevee? Not many! Tupp didn't stand a chance against the pretty boy of the class, and he was quickly forgotten. His need to be important and have attention on him didn't go away though. It just got louder, as he himself did—both in fashion sense and literally, as he grasped for attention. He never got it though and he clings to this 'wrong doing' against him with a petty vengeance. Refusing to see his own failings and shortcomings as to why he never gets the attention he thinks he's entitled to.
He does get some validation through his peers however. His need to be important being somewhat fulfilled with his unofficial leadership over not only Rapp and Zipp, but all of his fellow grunts of Team Skull. He doesn't out rank the true leaders of the gang by any means, but perhaps because of his loud and bossy personality he was able to establish himself as thus. They certainly do listen to him and he was able to gather the whole gang for one of his petty fights against his childhood rival. So he has some sort of pull in the gang, and they seem to respect him enough to care about his petty grievances.
Speaking of the gang and leaders, Tupp completely idolizes the leader of Team Skull: Guzma. It's pretty much hero worship and it's seen in even some of the smaller gestures he does. His walk, his mannerisms, they're very similar to that of the Boss. He tries to be ruthless like Guzma, tries to take charge similarly to him too. He basically wants to be Guzma, because the boss is his idealized vision of masculinity and power.
Tupp's also a very selfish person, with very little regard to anyone other than himself and those he favors. (Which besides Guzma and Plumeria, there really isn't anyone else). In the episode where Team Skull and Team Rocket are fighting over a special crystal, it's remarked that Tupp put his fellow teammates in danger just so he could get the crystal for himself. Mind you, this is a crystal he publicly denounced using earlier, as it was an unfair advantage others had against him. When he had the chance to get one for himself though he did not hesitate.
Tupp doesn't care about consistency with what he says or claims to believe, telling the others to "stop living in the past" when they called him out on contradicting himself about hating Z-moves. He only cares about what advantage he has over others, even if it makes him a hypocrite, which he absolutely is. Any advantage against him is seen as vile and detestable, yet the selfish brat has no issue being unfair to his enemies. He's entirely self-serving and self-centered.
There's only really one exception to his selfishness. Naturally, it's the leaders of Team Skull. Though it's still skewed by his personal interest, what with how he sees them as a source for something he needs: recognition. One such example that's been shown of an arguably selfless act is when he rallied the grunts to 'crush' the league for Guzma. Since he knew that it was what the boss wanted, and felt that Guzma shouldn't have to "bother" with it. They may have only accomplished small petty vandalism of the Pokémon League's property, but the gesture was there all the same. He's willing to take on whatever he can so long as it benefits Guzma in some way, both because of his respect and admiration for him, alongside his crippling need to be acknowledged by him.
In the end, Tupp is a bratty, self-absorbed, and vitriolic punk. He's all about himself, and what he can get from other people. Either acting the part of the aggressive thug, or being a subservient suck-up to his boss. Whatever will get him the recognition and acknowledgement he needs, he'll do it. However, what recognition he gets, and from whom, is what's ultimately important to him.
POWER:
POKÉMON:
Salandit: A toxic lizard pokemon with dual typing of poison and fire. Tupp has three of these pokemon. Being the unevolved form of their species they aren't the strongest. They rely mainly on their poisons and are more of a special attacker versus any sort of physical threat.
SALANDIT INSPIRED POWERS:
Drawing from Tupp's choice in Pokemon he'll gain similar powers as well. It draws from the dual typing which means Tupp gets fire and poison powers.
Fire: Tupp is able to conjure a small golf ball sized ball of fire in his hands at will. If thrown the ball will 'burst' sending the embers towards multiple targets as long as they're close together. Basically it's Flame Burst, a move that his Salandit's know. That's the peak of this ability, it will take practice and concentration for him to use it as intended. Most of the times it will conjure as a small flame, no better than lighter's flame with no 'burst' powers to speak of. However, he will slowly get more and more exhausted with subsequent usage of this power.
Poison: His poison abilities he gains works based on his emotions mostly. With practice like his fire he could learn to control it, but it will trigger as a reaction based on how extreme his emotions are. So basically when he gets pissed. The poison itself is a flowery/fruity sweet smelling gas that when inhaled causes dizziness. When removed from the gas, the effects wear off pretty quickly though the victim may feel light headed up to an hour after.
The second part to his poison however is that it can temporarily contaminate any food around Tupp. While the gas is airborne and can travel a bit farther, this effect is limited to just around Tupp himself. Food that is contaminated doesn't change in appearance or taste, but those who eat the contaminated food will find themselves getting mild food poisoning. Nothing severe. The reaction is delayed like real food poisoning. Those who ingest the food showing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps usually beginning suddenly and lasting for less than 24 hours. There is no lingering illness after the 24 hour mark. The food he contaminates will only hold this effect for 12 hours and will be safe to eat afterwards. (unless he contaminates it again) Tupp himself is immune to the effects of his own poison.
ANIME DURABILITY:
Tupp's last power comes from just how resilient characters are in the Pokemon anime. Tupp himself has been shown to take multiple direct hits from Pokemon attacks only to be lightly scuffed up from the affair. To reflect this his body will more sturdy to attacks in game. He can be injured (he's resistant to blunt damage, but stabbing him? Shooting him? No resistance there), he can be killed, he doesn't have any sort of healing abilities. He can just take a good beating and still be good to go more or less. There's no resistance to pain with this, however, and so while his body can hold up, he'll still feel every bit of it as if he were a normal person getting the hell beat outta them. Using the superpower wiki it would be comparative to Enhanced Durability. This is a constant ability, no thought or trigger to make it work.
